Choosing a Cabinet/Feeder Pillar

Choosing a Cabinet/Feeder Pillar

Basis of Design

Ritherdon design cabinets for a variety of purposes, however we do not hold electrical qualifications. We will not be able to advise you as to whether a certain cabinet would be suitable for a particular electrical supply for instance. As such, we only provide the cabinets, and we leave it up to our customers to decide what they want to put in them. A basic rule of thumb that we do follow is as follows:
  1. If the electrical equipment will fit inside the cabinet, it is usually fit for purpose.
With this in mind, cabinet suitability can be determined using:
  1. Required Cabinet Volume (height, width and depth)
  2. Backboard Size for mounting equipment
  3. Working Depth for mounting equipment
  4. Base Opening for cable/conduit entry

Choosing a Cabinet

R Pillars (and BT pillars)

Ritherdon R Pillars are among our smallest pillars. Their unique features include:
  1. Integrated pillars/root - Each pillar is designed with an integrated plinth to be buried in the ground to provide stability to the pillar.
  2. Lift-off door - Doors detach from the body to provide maximum accessibility to the interior.

RH Pillars

Ritherdon RH Pillars are of similar size to the R pillar range. Their unique features include:
  1. Integrated pillars/root - Each pillar is designed with an integrated plinth to be buried in the ground to provide stability to the pillar.
  2. Single hinged door - Hinged door provides greater security with 180 degree range.

RB Cabinets

Ritherdon RB Cabinets are our mid-sized range. Their unique features include:
  1. Optional Pillar - Cabinets can be supplied with matching pillars which are to be buried in the ground, and onto which the cabinets are installed.
  2. Single/double door - Sizes up to RB1000 are designed with a single hinged door, and sizes above are designed with two hinged doors.

Passively Safe Cabinets

Ritherdon Passively Safe Cabinets (PSC) provide a passively safe alternative to two RB cabinet sizes. Their unique features include:
  1. Separate Pillar - Cabinets are supplied with matching pillars which are to be buried in the ground, and onto which the cabinets are installed.
  2. Interface Unit - Can house an Electrical Isolation System (EIS) unit that cuts power to the cabinet in the event of a collision for added safety. 100mm tall, is fitted between plinth and cabinet.
  3. Passive Safety - Crash tested, designed to minimize the dangers associated with a high-speed vehicle collision. Upon impact, the cabinet shears off its base travelling clear of the car, minimizing damage and injury to the occupants.

RMC Cabinets

Ritherdon RMC Cabinets are our largest cabinet range. Their unique features include:
  1. Separate Pillar - Cabinets are supplied with matching pillars which are to be buried in the ground, and onto which the cabinets are installed.
  2. Optional Internal Separation - If required the cabinet can be divided into two compartments, each accessed by one of the doors.
  3. Three-point locking system with L handle, padlockable (10mm shackle) for added security.

Power Kiosk Cabinets

Ritherdon Power Kiosk Cabinets are designed for housing the power supply to a nearby property. Their unique features include:
  1. Temporary Supply Cabinets - TBS range is designed for temporary supply to building supply. Always supplied in red.
  2. Permanent Supply Cabinets - PS range is designed for permanent supply to a nearby property. Colour can vary.
  3. Segregated Compartments - Cabinets come with internal separation dividing the cabinet into two compartments for the DNO and the end user, each accessible by one door.
  4. Two separate backboards - Once back board in each compartment.

Product Data

A summary of the most relevant properties of each of our cabinet products are shown in the table below. All values are in millimetres and kg for weight. Plinth weights are included in brackets if sold separately, if not the weights are combined.

Height refers to the height not including the plinth. BT pegs do not contain backboards. PSC plinth height comprises of the height of the plinth and the interface unit. Backboard size for TBS/PS units is for each backboard, each unit contains two of equal size. Cable opening for RMC and TBS/PS units are for each opening, each unit has two openings next to each other separated by 100mm.
