Synfig Studio installer files are often treated by some not-well-know antiviruses as malware. In most cases, when checking through virustotal.com this looks like 2-3 alarms (commonly by Icarus or Baidu or Rising antiviruses).
If you downloaded Synfig Studio installer from our official website (
https://synfig.org/), then you can be sure -
this is a false alarm. Our installers are cross-compiled in a clean and secured Linux environment, so there is no chance a malware can leak into binary.
Unfortunately, from time to time some antiviruses claim false-alarms on our files because of their heuristic algorithms. When such incidents happen, we are contacting developers of those antiviruses so they can make a fix to their products. Again, there are few antivirus providers that do not responds to our requests (actually, they seems not to be responding for any requests), so sometimes we have nothing but wait until they will remove false alarm cases by themselves.
So, here are our recommendations:
First of all, make sure to check source of your download. Please note that we cannot guarantee quality and safety of Synfig installers, obtained from the sources other than linked form official download page at
https://synfig.org/.
Next, carefully examine report given by VirusTotal.com - if you see only 2-3 alarms from not-well-known antiviruses, then it is safe to open.
You can do us a favor and report the alarms to
https://github.com/synfig/synfig/issues, so we can notify developers of those antivirus products about false alarms and restore the reputation of our installer files.
